US Pushes Cannabis Reclassification to Boost Medical Research

The Department of Justice has officially reclassified cannabis products in the Controlled Substance Act. In his statement, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that the scheduling of cannabis products had been changed from Schedule I to Schedule III, which means that now cannabis will be regulated just like Tylenol with codeine. President Donald Trump gave orders last year that would result in this regulation change as well as improvements in the medical and scientific use of cannabis products. Despite all the regulations currently in place, cannabis remains illegal at the federal level. With the regulation change, it will be easier for scientists to examine both risks and benefits of the substance.
